In het Edwardiaanse Engeland proberen George en zijn partner Amy zich af te zetten tegen de vooroordelen in de maatschappij en samen een leven op te bouwen. Hun relatie neemt echter een drastische wending wanneer het land geteisterd wordt door een alieninvasie. Ze zullen alles op alles moeten zetten om te overleven en zullen het moeten opnemen tegen een vijand die niet te doorgronden valt.
