Journalist Hannis Martinsson krijgt onverwacht bericht van Sonja, een dierenrechten- en milieuactiviste. Zij beweert dat ze zijn dochter is en dat haar leven in gevaar is. Wanneer Hannis afreist naar de Faeröer eilanden om de plotselinge verdwijning van Sonja te onderzoeken, vindt hij haar lichaam tijdens een lokale walvisjacht. Zijn zoektocht naar antwoorden brengt hem al snel in conflict met de lokale politie.
